  • Make sure doors and windows are securely locked

  • For the comfort of your pet, adjust the  thermostat before leaving.

  • If applicable use timers on interior lights and program them to turn on at dusk and off at bed time.

  •  Leave notes for your sitter

  • Inform your pet sitter about any unusual habits when left alone: ie: hiding places, hairball's, destructive behavior.

  • Notify your vet that a pet sitter will be caring for your pets, and authorize vet to extend medical care during your absence if it becomes necessary.

  • Remove candy, nuts, coffee from counters.

  • Make sure any off limit areas ie. bedroom, study etc. are secured.

  • Toilet lids open/ closed?

  • Make sure cupboards and storage areas are secured. A bored or determined cat can "go where they have never gone before".

  • Make sure that there is enough food, litter and cleaning supplies to last your trip.

  • Leave out extra litter bags.

  • If applicable advise your concierge that your pet sitter will be visiting and authorize entry.

  • If using a lockbox, remember to secure it in the designated spot.

  • Leave out lots of toys, playthings, scratching posts to keep pets from getting bored.

  • Leave the radio on a classical music channel, soft gentle music provides your pet with a sense of calm.

  • Use motion sensors on exterior lights. If evening visits are scheduled to your home your pet sitter will really appreciate this safety precaution.

  • While on your trip don't forget to send your pet a postcard, we would be happy to read it to your pet :)

  • Enjoy your trip knowing that your pets and home are being cared for by a professional pet sitter!
